  • Q. How is hook™ different from my current local line?

    A. Hook™ uses a digital technology called VoIP [Voice over the Internet] that allows you to use your existing Internet service to make and receive regular phone calls. You will enjoy enhanced services like Voice Mail, Caller ID, and Visual Call Waiting just like traditional phone companies offer. All you need is a High Speed Internet connection and our hook™ VoIP Adapter and you can start saving immediately.

  • Q. Where is hook™ available?

    A. Just pick a province from the drop down below to see a list of cities where a hook™ number is available:

  • Q. How do I make a call?
    • To make a local call... dial area code + number
    • To make a Long Distance call... dial 1+ area code + number
    • To make an International call... dial 011 + country code + city code + number

    With hook™, you could be making calls from Toronto today, and Vancouver next week, simply by taking your hook™ VoIP Adapter everywhere you go. To eliminate confusion always dial a "1" before all calls including local calls. You will not be billed for local calls. A Local Calling Guide is available for your reference that lists all the area codes that are free.

  • Q. What is considered a local call?

    A. Hook™ uses the North American standard set by the traditional telephone companies. If for example you have a Toronto 416 area code, and are not sure if a call to Thornhill is long distance, you may consult the Local Calling Guide. It will list all the areas the are considered to be local. Calls outside your local calling area will incur long distance charges.

  • Q. What about long distance calls?

    A. To call anywhere in the world for free, both parties need to have hook™. All hook™-to-hook™ calls are free regardless of where they are in the world. hook™ also offers unbelievable world-wide long distance rates!

  • Q. What is the hook™ Web Portal and how do I log in?

    A. The hook™ Web Portal is a web portal where you can manage your Hook™ services. There are many features and below are just a few.

    • View 6 months of your past 6 bills
    • Make payments
    • View detailed call logs
    • Listen to your VoiceMail messages.

    In order to log in, you will need the hook™ phone number and password given to you when you signed up.

  • Q. Do I need to know a lot about computers to use this service?

    A. Nope. hook™ is very easy to install and you will use the same telephone or cordless phone that you would normally use with your local telephone company. If you need assistance we have tech support available at www.ihook.com/help.

  • Q. What do I need to use hook™?

    A. The only things you need to have are a High Speed Internet service (Cable or DSL) and a standard analog telephone. We recommend a cordless phone. hook™ will provide the additional equipment required (hook™ VoIP Adapter) to set up and use hook™.

  • Q. When will my hook™ start to work?

    A. Your hook™ Starter Kit will arrive within approximately 7 days. You can install and start using it in minutes.

  • Q. Do I need to turn my computer on to use hook™?

    A. Nope. hook™ does not require a computer, however, hook™ does allow you to talk and surf the Internet at the same time.

  • Q. Will hook™ work with my Alarm?

    A. If you plan on using hook™ as your primary phone service you will need to have your alarm company connect your alarm system to hook™. They will need to program the alarm panel to use SIA format.
